The Orono Police Department (OPD) values the help and support from our community members and businesses. The members of the OPD offer a vast majority of knowledge and experience to our community. We thrive on building relationships and making sure we protect life and property to the best of our abilities. We will not back down when a difficult task or situation arises because we understand our duties and are highly trained for those types of events.
History
Orono was created in 1889, incorporated in 1955, and designated as a city in 1974.
The City had constables before starting the Orono Police Department in 1962. Minnetonka Beach and Long Lake contracted soon after the department began, but it wasn’t until 1981 that Spring Park started getting service from OPD. In 2013 the Orono Police Department began patrolling Mound.
